A personal message from our new CEO Steve Jamieson

I started my new role as Chief Executive of The Society and The College at the end of September, and am very much looking forward to working with an organisation with a strong heritage and, I believe, a bright future. As someone with a number of years’ leadership experience in a membership organisation, it is great to be able to work with you on taking the organisation forward.

Many of you will have contributed to the consultation on our draft strategic plan and will be pleased to know that the views of members expressed in the consultation have been taken on board and included in the final version of the strategy, which has just been signed off by our Council. I am delighted that I will be able to present this to many of you at our annual conference in Liverpool.

I’m also looking forward to hearing your views and suggestions on how we can make your organisation the best it possibly can be. If you’re going to conference I look forward to seeing you there, and I will also be attending branch meetings and educational events to meet and hear from you over the next few months.

One thing I was concerned to hear is that a number of members are unhappy about the telephone and email response we currently provide for members and particularly the time it takes to get through to the office in London. One of my key priorities is to rectify this and I hope that you will see a real change in the service when you call us or contact us in the future.

I am beginning to look at all the services we provide to you our members, and we are just about to appoint a Director of Membership Services who will take the lead in making sure that the service you get from us in the future will be a platinum one. We’ll be doing all that we can over the next few months to put in place improvements that will benefit and improve our services to members.

Can I ask that you give me a couple of months to get this up and running and in the meantime I have set up an email address where any concerns or comments you have can come directly to me. The address is feedback@scpod.org.

With any new CEO comes change and I am clear that a number of key changes need to be implemented to make this organisation more effective and efficient. This is your organisation and I want to hear from you on getting it right so please contact me on the above email address.

As I have said I am excited about our new ways of working, our new strategy and how we will make the organisation great.

Please do send me your comments and come and say hello at conference.
